JOB SCOPE/ SUMMARY:
- Develop, implement, and administer policies and programs to establish and promote maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions
- Ensure facilities and practices are in compliance with government safety regulations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop, implement and coordinate company-wide safety training programs in compliance with state and federal requirements, promote company-wide safety and health awareness and assist in preparation of annual safety budget.
2. Maintain written Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and ensure all program requirements are met.
3. Process pesticide registration for new products prior to their release and submit appropriate records to governmental agencies.
4. Maintain and update all Material Safety Data Sheet books in compliance with OSHA regulations, complete or verify accuracy and timely filing of Workers' Compensation injury reports, medical and indemnity payments, invoicing, OSHA 300 report, and related reports and records.
5. Maintain and update Emergency Business Plans and procedures for all facilities as required.
6. Supervise the maintenance of employee safety and training records and develop, implement and maintain safety recognition and awards programs.
7. Develop and maintain job hazard analyses for job classifications, prepare and submit government mandated reports.
8. Supervise the procurement, maintenance, issuance of safety equipment and administration of Personal Protection Equipment Program.
9. Manage Workers' Compensation claims; coordinate with insurance carrier and managers, supervisors and employees regarding the status and disposition of all claims. Prepare and analyze Workers' Compensation activity reports by location and department as required.
10. Audit facility practices/records periodically to ensure compliance with programs and state/federal occupational safety and health regulations and administer and audit vendor certification safety program.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Educational attainment equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a safety science, engineering, or industrial hygiene discipline
Training or certification in safety and health and hazardous materials management programs
Thorough experience in health and safety administration and communication practices
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES RECOMMENDED FOR POSITION:
Thorough knowledge of safety policies, practices, hazardous material handling and emergency response procedures
Knowledge of health and safety programs and occupational risks
Knowledge of the federal and state Occupational Safety and Health Act
Knowledge of manufacturing and distribution practices and procedures
Supervisory principles and leadership techniques
Knowledge of adult learning principles and training methods
Communications and editorial practices
