JOB SCOPE/ SUMMARY:
- Administer and coordinate activities on multiple enterprise databases on the IBM DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server platforms
- Implement policies, procedures and best practices. Perform database administration utilizing database commands, structured query language and database tools
- Manage EDI communications to various trading partners utilizing the Gentran Information Suite
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Design, specify, configure, install and maintain databases and related information services.
2. Conduct routine maintenance of tables, indexes, storage and logs.
3. Responsible for reliable backup and recovery of database files and logs.
4. Ability to manage complex technical projects and upgrades through the use of project management tools and methodologies.
5. Consult with department managers to analyze, propose and develop database related system solutions consistent with organizational objectives.
6. Conduct database performance tuning and capacity planning activities.
7. Work through various shifts around the clock to support regular monthly scheduled outages, systems upgrades, environment refreshes and problem situations.
8. Prepare DB2 statistical information and cost benefit analyses, and further refining the 'physical design' to meet system storage requirements for disk space on assigned projects.
9. Collect and analyze network database utilization, coordination, interaction and other measurement data as required and report results to management.
10. Write database documentation including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ('metadata').
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Educational attainment equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, 4+ years experience as a database administrator and 3+ years experience in IT systems administration. Demonstrated proficiency in the following areas: IBM Universal Database, Microsoft SQL Server, UNIX and Windows 2000 Server and Gentran Information Suite
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of network operating systems, database applications and development tools
Ability to solve complex problems and perform accurate analysis
Must have excellent interpersonal and excellent written & oral communications skills are essential
Ability to plan, organize and complete work as scheduled and provide regular weekly communications

Experience maintaining servers in a high availability (24/7) production environment
Must be self-motivated in learning new technologies and willing to share knowledge
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to Travel and be on call 24x7 with a company supplied pager/phone
